Detailed description of Fox Hollow Golf Club

Fox Hollow Golf Course is a semi-private 18-hole golf course located in New Port Richey, Florida. The course first opened for play in 1994 and has become a local favorite.

Fox Hollow Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones Senior designed golf course. Like all Robert Trent Jones Senior golf courses, Fox Hollow was designed to make the golfer completely unaware that there was ever anything but a golf course where they play.

You will never know that, when you stand on the signature, 452-yard18th tee that the gradual uphill climb to the green used to have no elevation change whatsoever, or that the amphitheater green in front of the clubhouse never existed in nature. Tons of dirt moved and shaped under the planning of Mr. Jones created what seems to have been the way it should have been.

When you play Fox Hollow, you'll experience what every great golf course should give you—the feeling of being alone on a challenging, but fair golf course with no reminders that the outside world exists. You get this feeling as soon as you leave the first tee and disappear into the lush, Central-Florida foliage. Once you leave the first green, you'll be alone with your playing partners, your game, and the Florida wildlife. That's one of the things that make Fox Hollow a joy to play! You're able to focus on your game without interference.

With five sets of tees, you’re able to select the appropriate playing challenge. Never is there a forced carry that will outreach your abilities if you play from the correct tees. You can find good evidence of this on number three. This hole plays anywhere from 292-yards to 451-yards offering a mighty, but manageable challenge for the low-handicapper and high handicapper alike. With the prevailing winds, the gradual uphill climb and the well-guarded green, this hole can be a challenge, but also a true pleasure to play.

The same holds true for the finishing holes, 16-18. Sixteen is a fantastic par three with water guarding the entire right side, from tee to green. Water also protects against the long miss making club selection crucial. The green itself is guarded in front usually adds a stroke and, even if you hit the green, be sure to hit the correct section of the three-section, 31-pace monster. From the tips, 16 plays a manageable 166 yards and a mere 128-from the middle tee. Don't let the length lull you into a false sense of security! Club selection can spell real birdie chance or disaster!

There's a stark contrast between the short sixteenth and the very long, par four17th! With a large fairway bunker guarding the left side, players are forced to hit across a water hazard (more of a psychological hazard) which lies short and right from the tee. Favoring the right side of the fairway allows the slope of the fairway to keep you ball down the middle. Take one club more on your approach to make up for the elevation change and to take the death-trap which guards the front, left out of play. Once on the green, depending on where the flag is, two putts is no guarantee!

Coming home on 18 is a true golfer's pleasure. Eighteen was made as a serious finishing hole and is arguably the course's signature hole. Eighteen is another long par four with a fantastic wrinkle. The entire hole plays like it is an island. From the back tee, you're faced with a long carry over water, water left, water and fairway bunker right.

The key here is to aim at the American flag next to the clubhouse and let her rip! Tee shots veering too far left is wet, but too far right holds the same result. Down the middle is your only shot. Once on the fairway, be sure to use enough club to compensate for the uphill elevation change. Be sure to tip your hat to the folks at Windows on The Green as you approach 18 with your last birdie putt of the day and your return to the real world!

The greens were punched Tuesday before we played Sunday. Most courses would tell you that when booking a tee time. Normally this is a great course & I would be more positive but when a 3 ft putt could go anywhere it's not much fun. I play here often, all winter as well, & drive from Tampa which is a haul to be excited about playing & then have sandy punched greens on Masters Sunday is a thumbs down.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again

The greens were in perfect condition. The only problems on the entire course was a few divots that were not filled.
